FEEL YOUR BOOBIES!!!!

October is Breast Cancer  Awareness Month...Be sure to do your self exam and/or schedule a mammogram!

Take a moment to to think of those who are fighting this horrible killer and of those who have lost their battle.
Click Here for a Great Breast Cancer Awareness Site
Everyday I thank God that my Aunt D is still with us, she's been fighting this BEAST for over 16 years.  It takes amazing strength and courage to go through what she has gone through including a stem cell transplant, which her body is still trying to reject. I have an AMAZING Uncle D who has stayed with her every step of the way. My cousins have grown into adults watching their mom fight this battle, they have all been through so much and continue to be there for her and each other.  I LOVE you Aunt D and Uncle D, JP, JM and JC!!!

Leave us your survivor story and or the names of loved ones who may have lost the battle but will NEVER be forgotten.

This is just a sample self exam, please ask your physician for the proper technique.

D's QUICK and EASY Tortilla Soup

I LOVE tortilla soup, but for some reason always thought it would be hard to make.  My friend "M" shared a recipe with me, as usual, I was pressed time so I made some changes that worked out wonderful!  This recipe made enough for me and College Brat to eat dinner and have left overs for lunch, would probably be ok for a family of 4, but if you like left overs I would double the recipe.
D's EASY, LAZY, QUICK Tortilla Soup:
  • 1 big can of chicken - strained and shredded (can find where the tuna is)
  • 1 can of whole kernal yellow corn (drained)
  • 1 can of black beans (drained)
  • 2 cans rotel tomatoes with chiles, lime and cilantro *
  • 3 cans chicken broth
  •  1 onion (chopped, I used my food processor)
  • 3/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground Cumin
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • Tortilla chips - break them up
  • Shredded Fiesta Blend cheese
*if you can't find the Rotel with chiles, lime and cilantro, use 2 cans diced tomatoes with chiles, 1-1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice  and 2-1/2 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro.

Mix all the ingrediants together in a big pot, bring to a boil.  Reduce heat and let simmer for 30-45 minutes. (except for tortilla chips and cheese)

When ready to serve, put in bowls and top with tortilla chips and shredded cheese.

D's Review:
I absolutely LOVED this book.

Brady is a loner, but oh so sexy, sensitive Alpha male. Lilah is a nuturer, but scared to love. Both Brady and Lilah survived difficult childhoods.

This book made me laugh, cry and want Brady and his sexiness for myself.

The chemistry between Lilah and Brady is HOT! The sex scenes are smokin. I love that there is a full fleshed story to go along with the sex scenes. I wouldn't classify this as erotic, but if erotic is rated X, this would be Rated R, with regular contemporary romances PG 13.

The secondary characters have me chompin at the bit for their books. Dell and Adam are a couple of hunks. And I can't wait to find out all about Jade. The interactions between Brady, Lilah and the secondary characters were funny and touching.

And last but not least...Boss, Twinkles and the menagerie of animals almost steal the story =)

I almost didn't read Animal Magnestism because by the title I assumed it was about shape shifters and I am not that into shifters. Thank goodness I love JS works and took the time to read the description.

Review - Sexiest Vampire Alive by Kerrelyn Sparks

Book Description: Contemporary, Vampire Romance
Summary:

The secret is out . . . Vampires do exist!

When a video reveals to the world that vampires live among us, it’s up to “young” vamp Gregori Holstein, VP of Marketing, to persuade the U.S. government to declare the video a hoax. But first the president wants a favor, one that requires Gregori to spend forty-eight hours in very close contact with the First Daughter.

Abby Tucker would rather spend her nights in a lab than attend her father’s state dinners. She’s dedicated her life to finding a cure that will save her dying mother and needs only two more ingredients. To find them, she’ll have to venture into the most dangerous region of the world—with a vampire. Her Armani-clad escort may be Undead, but he still makes her heart race. And the greatest danger won’t be the predatory hordes lying in wait for them; it will be her undying desire for the Sexiest Vampire Alive.

D's Review:
Finally, the playboy of all playboys finally gets caught, and caught BIG TIME!

Did I enjoy Sexiest Vampire Alive???  Well here is my facebook status from this morning:  So around 8:00 pm last night I made a pot of coffee and proceeded to drink the whole pot because I wanted to finish reading Sexiest Vampire Alive...I finished it around 3:30 am and loved it!!! But this morning, I'm still jittery as hell ;-)

The Love at Stake series is one of my all time favorites!  I've been in LOVE with Gregori since the beginning. Through the years we have seen Gregori as the pretty, young, flirtatious, charming vampire who oozes sex appeal.  In Sexiest Vampire Alive we find out there is much more to Gregori than a pretty face.  Abigail, she is the oldest daughter of the President of the US, the unknown daughter. Abby's content to stay out of the limelight and in her research lab.  She hasn't been lucky in the love department and can't fathom why someone as sexy as Gregori would be interested in her.  There is an instant attraction the first time Abby and Gregori see each other. There's just one little problem, Abby is mortal and Gregori is un-dead...which is a bit of an ick factor for Abby.

Abby and Gregori are thrown together in an adventure, during this time she tries to fight the attraction and he persists in seducing her.  Gregori has some major mojo and Abby just can't fight it!  Along their journey we get to see the WILD Dr. Phang and all his silliness. The whole scene where Gregori, Abby, Dr. Phang and Madison (Abby's younger sister) visit a vampire nightclub and the Vampire network had me laughing until I cried.

SVA is a fun read, with steamy smexin', cameos by many of the characters we love, several new vamps and shifters, action and all the HUMOR that Kerrelyn Sparks is so great at!  There are a few interesting side stories in SVA that I am anxious to see where they lead in future books.

If you are a fan of the series you should enjoy SVA.  If you have never read anything by Kerrelyn Sparks, you could pick up SVA and read it without being lost, HOWEVER, I STRONGLY recommend reading the whole series.  All the characters are lovable and sexy!

OH and did you see the cover and inside cover?  I LOVE it, the Love At Stake series happens to be one of the few I buy in e-book and paperback format, for two reasons, ONE I started out in paperback and have the first 9 books in pb, TWO the covers are so freaking awesome!!!

*****POSSIBLE SPOILER*****

****my WTF rant, I saw a couple of reviews that said they didn't feel like they got closure on some things, like will Abby want to change? What happens with Sean? I HATE WHEN REVIEWERS MAKE STUPID STATEMENTS LIKE THAT!!  All I have to say is HELLLOOO WTF are they thinking, if they've been reading the series, like they claim they have, there are occasionally one or two things that might not get resolved until later books...UMM SHANNA being one of the biggest?!?!****

A Forever Kind of Guy, Barbara Meyers

Book Description: Contemporary Romance
Visit Barbara's web-site
Book Summary:
Is he the real deal, or just another regret waiting to happen?

First on Hayley Christopher’s list to get her train-wreck life back on track: stay away from men. Especially the ones who cause a ripple effect of bad decisions.

Still reeling from a high-profile divorce, the college dropout and former pro cheerleader is stumbling through yet another challenge—temporary custody of her nephew, Fletcher. No one knows better than Hayley that she’s not mother material. When she opens the door to her new landlord and old flame, she wonders just how many more past mistakes she is destined to pay for.

After the death of his wife, Ray Braddock is still putting the pieces back together. Hayley—and the silent little boy at her side—both bristle with emotional barriers so high, it appears no one but him can see that together, three broken people just might make a whole family.

As she watches Fletcher respond to Ray’s patient care, Hayley’s determination to hold on to her heart begins to soften. But just when she begins to think that Ray is one opportunity she shouldn’t let slip by, Fletcher’s gang-connected father threatens to make her pay for the one good choice she ever made…

Warning: Touches on issues of death, child abandonment, neglectful parenting. Sensuous love scenes.

Naughty D's Review:
To my knowledge this is the first real contemporary romance I've personally read that's been published by Samhain.  I am used reading Samhain’s uber steamy erotic books, this is also the first book I've read by Barbara Meyers.  I wasn't sure what I would find with A Forever Kind of Guy, but I found I really enjoyed it!

I absolutely LOVED Ray from the beginning and what’s not to LOVE about Haley’s nephew Fletcher.  I DID NOT want to like Haley, she is a retired professional cheerleader and started out extremely self-centered.

In a Forever Kind of Guy, Ms. Meyers takes on us Haley’s emotional journey of growth,  about half-way into the book I started cheering for her to get her head on straight and fall for Ray.  Ray is severely scarred by what happened to his late wife, but realizes that he is ready to fall in love again when he meets Haley. Haley is determined to head to L.A. once she gets Fletcher settled in foster care (another reason I didn’t care for Haley, but you have to read the book to get the why’s of her misguided reasoning).  Ray refuses to give up on Haley, he is strong, sexy and semi patient.  Their chemistry is hot and Haley gives a good fight, but has a hella time refusing Ray. Then Ray turns her world upside down by holding back his good lovin’ from her.   The bit about Fletcher’s bio-dad being a gang member adds an interesting twist to the story.

Besides the great emotional growth and healing in this book, we also get to read great family and friend dynamics.  Hayley’s got great friends in Paige and Andre.  Rick’s parents are great, especially his feisty momma.  Ray’s brother Rick and sister in law Kaylee play a big part in this book, as does their daughter Molly. Rick, Kaylee and Molly’s story is book one, I didn’t realize there was a book one until I was half way into this book.  I wasn’t lost at all, but I do want to go back and read about the road to Rick and Kaylee’s HEA.

As far as I'm concerned, A Forever Kind of Guy is a true contemporary romance.  The story is full of emotional strife, humor, family ties and life struggles with sweet lovin' thrown in. IMO the sexin' is at the right pace and right amount for the story.   I read the last word of A Forever Kind of Guy with a sigh and a smile on my face.

I give A Forever Kind of Guy

The Man She Loves To Hate by Kelly Hunter (Harlequin Presents Extra)

Book Summary:
Three reasons to keep away from Cole Rees…
1. My mom had a scorching affair with his dad—just think how awkward that "meet the family" would be…
2. His arrogance drives me mad—he might be a gorgeous billionaire, but I hate how he knows it!
3. Every time he touches me I go up in flames…and it's utterly terrifying.
Come on, a fling with the man I love to hate? Like that would ever work out…

Naughty D's Review:
The Man She Loves To Hate was a great story.  Two kids hurt years ago by the actions of their parents are unexpectedly brought together.  For a short read there is a lot of drama and emotion in this book.  I went into the book thinking Cole was going to be an insensitive jerk and Jolie a shy, embarrassed adult still dealing with "mommy" issues.  What I found was a story of two people trying to fight for a love that neither family wants them to have.    Cole isn't a typical Alpha male, there are layers of him that are extremely attractive.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this book, I honestly couldn't put it down. I would love to see a story for Cole's sister Hannah and his friend Derek.
